As a kid I have been fascinated by the idea of pottery
making. How the wheel spins moulding clay by hands, adjusting the speed, making anything and everything on it. It’s crazy
to see the different shapes, structures and formations one can make on wheel. It
seemed so simple until I actually tried my hands on it. It’s not even a
tad bit easy as it looks! No matter how many videos you see, how well you know
the technique- handling the clay needs a lot of practice. Learning is always fun, and when its all about getting messy with mushy clay- its totally meant for me! :)
As a beginner, this is what I have made. It's made of terracotta
clay using multiple techniques. A combination of coiling technique as well as partly made on the wheel. Rose has been
crafted through hand building technique.
For the final touches, I coloured the pot with red iron
oxide, polished it to get the sheen and finally fired it in a kiln. This is how it finally looks. :)
I know it’s not perfect and there’s a long way to go, but the
satisfaction, joy and fulfilment I am filled with after making this cannot be
expressed in words! This creation of mine is precious just like a big rock
is precious to any girl. Believe me when I say it!
