The era of Black and White would always be memorable as you hear unforgettable stories from parents and grandparents. During the time where television was a privilege, people flocked in long queues to the cinemas to experience wonderful stories and beautifully written songs again and again and again. It was a proud moment to mention the number of times someone went to watch a movie. My father still enacts so many of these songs and old scenes, we enjoy it laughing our heads off. These memorable moments are the real gems of life.

The 'Joey' in us!! Blog marathon post-20

Joey has been my favourite character in Friends. I am sure, many adore him as well. The way his character was developed in each season was phenomenal. He stood out the most. Charmed us with his wits, funny moments and comic timing.

There is a Joey in all of us. If not all the qualities together, but assorted ones do exist. :) Which ones do you relate to the most?

Zehreele (poisonous) lyrics. :) Blog marathon post-11

Music is always a big high but not all music. I can’t help mentioning that few songs are really tough to make any sense. Just when you thought that your ears are ready for some treat as the music started, BAM!! you've got @#$@*%@% lyrics to accompany. We listen to many out of the box ones, double meaning (if one can infer) and sometimes, just filled in with words randomly put together to rhyme, or maybe sung in a different accent to make them rhyme. Anything and everything is possible in this lyrics business. Total mind boggling stuff!

To name a few that always cling to my mind are-

Ishq Wala Love - Student of the Year

I love the music and even hum along. Then starts masterpiece lyrics "Ishq Wala Love". And you've got Santa and Banta confused. I whacked my brain real hard to understand the hidden meaning if any. The more I thought about it, the more my brain rolled out in laughter. Forget enjoying the song, all I could think of is -

The next hidden treasure was that me and my hubby started talking in the same slang when he said - "Give me Khana wala Food."

What? Really are they talking about mouth to mouth breathing? Though colloquially it may mean the kiss of life. But who wants to know that?  :) Srk is a bomb diffuser as well as a doc who saves people suffering from asthma. How wonderful is that! That’s why we love our actors- they are simply heroic. 

Tune Mujhe Pehchana Nahi - Raju Chacha

The lyrics goes like this-

Deewana hu main deewana nahi

So is he trying to say that he is crazy about her, but not that crazy?

Or

Practically he is in love, but not blind in love. :)  (how so blunt, ouch!)

He sounds confused. It's probably a good way to say, I wish to keep my options open. Ha!

Yet another song let for the audience to guess and decide what’s with it?

Something old, something new

Old is gold. It's rare, valuable and glued in memory. When something in the past, comes and visits in present with a newness, a fresh look and feel. It's always greeted cordially. We time travel and compare how innovatory its ornamented. The old magic cannot be recreated, they say. I agree, but a little change with time is perpetual. Also, the change should be a welcome one, living up to the standards laid earlier. Once it happens, you can relate, sink and dive into it.

The recent one that comes straight in mind is Evolution of Bollywood by Penn masala.

Beat boxing style with a mix of legendary songs from all the decades. Starting from black and white era carrying 'the then look' to batameez dil imitating Ranbir's style. You flow with it. Old famous soundtracks served in a brand new platter. It's peppy and catchy. The young lads have done a great job! Appreciation and applause for the innovation.

Hungama ho gaya, song filmed on Bindu in a night club. Brilliant music by R.D. Burman, it's rightly said he was ahead of his time. It's imbibed in one of my current favourite movie, Queen.  Same night club set up, but feel of 21st century. Kangana just bowled the audiences with mark of excellence. The way she danced, freaking out forgetting everything. Breaking all the shackles. Everyone's soul danced with her! For me, this one surely is better than the old one.

Har kisi ko nahi milta yahan pyaar zindagi mein, another famous song from movie Janbaaz. Sridevi smitten the show. None can beat her on screen presence in a saree. Gosh, the diva can outshine all. Even Feroz Khan, the man of hats and horses is overshadowed by Sridevi. With different music and lyrics it's featured in the movie Boss. Sung by Arijit Singh in his soul searching voice penetrates deep and strike every chord in your system. I liked the video as well, Akshay wooed me completely with this side pose of his in the hat. :) Though Sonakshi couldn't recreate the magic of Sridevi.

There are many more in the list and many more to come! Can the new ones replace the old songs? Of course that cannot be the tail. But it surely helps in revisiting the songs lost in the memories.

Birthdays!

Birthdays are always special. We make great plans, which are being orchestrated well before the special day. Big surprises are part and parcel of the whole day, adding more excitement. List of a few things that we normally do-

• Go for a trip or
• Have a luxurious party or
• To be on an extravaganza by being a complete shopaholic before Birthday or
• Maybe buy a big rock or beautiful jewellery as a remembrance (that specially goes for girls) or
• Watch a good movie followed by dining out with friends and family or
• Maybe, do all of the above!

But have you ever thought of Birthday with a difference? Like, striking a long-awaited item from your bucket list? Something that you really wanted to do since childhood. Something you always have been holding back. For instance, you always thought you have a great voice, but needs little training and polishing. You wanted to learn to play the guitar. Any creative stuff you always wanted to give it a shot, but didn't. Etc ... etc.

How about gifting yourself your childhood dream! Just imagine the satisfaction, the joy and fulfilment you will witness. The excitement will run in your blood through veins! Only an artist can understand the true meaning of creating something. It becomes your own baby! You have sleepless nights dreaming and creating it in your vision time over again. I can bet, it will be precious to you the same way a big rock is to any girl. Believe me when I say it! 

Sometimes because of time, or limited means or any other reasons we could not achieve it. Don't just think of unfinished things in our list as regrets, but with a highlighter tick them up. The tickling little happiness in your heart is beyond words. Gift yourself the pleasure of learning things you always wanted to. This is the time. One life to do what all we love! And, the best to start off on your birthday. :)

Flamenco

I am intrigued by the tune of flamenco guitar. It is similar to the Classical guitar with thin top and light internal bracing. It produces a brighter and more percussive sound quality. Lately I discovered this style of playing the guitar. It's raunchy and alluring. A quintessential Spanish style. You will be hypnotised by it for sure.

Did you see how different it is? With little pauses in between and then tapping the guitar just blows you away! 

Another one of my favourites -

Isn't it amazing? It's an absolute mood changer! :) When you listen to the music, the entire ambience is created in your mind where it's time for merrymaking- friends dancing and hopping together whereas couples doing some seductive fast steps not even missing a single beat. Ooh, all time high. :)

Nostalgic 80's and 90's ads

When I see these ads, they remind me of my childhood and teens. All the then famous taglines, captions, brands and their USP's just ring in your head. The India advertising has really evolved in the last decade with innovation and plethora of new creative ideas. But it cannot take away the innocence of 80's and 90's ads. They were simple and narrative. Only few ads in those days were really stylish and iconic- and those are still imprinted in mind.

30 most nostalgic ads of that era-

1) Cadbury's dairy milk 

This ad remains one of my top favourites till date. Just love how it's conceptualised and the way the girl danced summarised the joy one feels as a cricket fan! It was found that most adults wanted to eat Diary Milk but restrained themselves because it was supposed to be consumed by children. Thus, a repositioning campaign was launched which showed adults doing unconventional things (like a girl breaking into a jig in the middle of an overflowing cricket stadium) driving home the message that chocolates could be enjoyed by adults as well.

2) Bajaj bulb

'Ab main bilkul budha hu goli khake geeta hu, lekin aaj bhi ghar ke ander roshini karta bajaj.' Who can forget these lines? :) Epic ad of that era.

3) Dhara 

Pure innocence captures your heart where you cannot stop smiling. Amazing concept where jalebi (scrumptious delicacy) episode is so tempting for the child to stay back. Shows how mothers have to mould the child in their growing stages. Another fab ad!

4) Humara Bajaj

Bajaj scooters were a rage those days! 'Buland Bharat ki buland tasveer humara Bajaj.' Perfect taglines to describe the then dominating brand. 

5) Doordardhan ad

PURE NOSTALGIA!!! 

6) Mile sur mera tumhara

The motto 'Unity in diversity' is so beautifully described in this ad. Who hasn't hummed along the ad? It communicates the message so strongly- how being culturally different still we are united. Languages, cultures, festivals and religions may be different but we are Indians. We salute our pride and our flag!

7) Cadbury kya swad hai zindagi ke

Capture little moments in your life with Cadbury's. Live life fully. 

8) Wonderful doodh

I hate milk. As a kid it was a herculean task to make me drink milk. Something in this ad made me finish my glass of milk. :) Mom used to sing it to me. This is surely a catchy ad. 

9)    Lakhani shoes

'What to do simply wear lakhani.' I love this ad. When this ad was released the idea to wear sport shoes with saree or suits was completely alien for the Indian customers. Gradually, the market as well as the consumer has evolved. We do see women wearing sport shoes with suits while going for morning and evening walks. 

10) Lakme

Super stylish ad that would woo you completely. Ash at her best! Gorgeous and beautiful. 'She's got the look' song describes her completely. Another one of my favourites. This ad can compel anyone to use Lakme and redefine herself! It's powerful. 

11) Onida

As a kid this 'devil' ad really got me scared. I used to scream whenever this ad was featured until my mom made me sit and understand not to get scared as it's just a tv ad. :)

Onida was the first indigenous premium TV brand in India. Its unique advertising gave it a special status among well-to-do consumers. The hugely successful "devil" campaign proclaimed "Neighbour's Envy, Owner's Pride." In the mid-nineties, however, there was tough competition unleashed by MNC brands like Sony, Samsung and LG. Thus the positioning had to be made contemporary. It was then changed to "World's Envy, India's Pride" to signal that Onida was as good as the foreign brands. 

12) Ericsson mobile

Classic ad with a little twist. A man mistakes a woman's conversation on a phone in a restaurant as an invitation to him. :) Very creative! 

13) Nescafe 

Pa para ra pa ra ra... Love this tune and the ad. If it was coffee, it had to be Nescafe. 'The taste that gets you started off...Nescafe!'

14) Liril 

Preity Zinta stole the show in this ad. She was refreshing and cool. Just by showing skin the essence of the ad is not communicated. The whole idea of the girl enjoying all by herself under a water fall in a bubbly and chick way hit the audience by large.

15) 7 up

My love for Fido dido can never fade away. I was crazy about it. :) It was funny and cool.
I used to make fido-dido birthday cards for all friends and relatives! 

16) Pan parag

'Hum bas itna chahte hai ki aap baratiyon ka swagat pan parag se karen'. This ad used to play like hell number of times in those days. It was never a choice to like this ad, though repeatedly playing strategy really engraved it in your system. 

17) Lijjat papad

Karram kuraam kuraam karram
eh he he eh he he Lijjat papad. 
I still feel it is one of the catchiest jingles made.

18) Ajanta clocks

Love this tune. I used to hum a lot and dance to it. :)

19) Humdard ka tonic cinkara

Hehe. I remember this ad vaguely. It featured Javed Jaffery in a work place all bogged down. The tagline was 'ye hai kaam ke bojh ka maara isse chahiye humdard ka tonic cinkara'. Couldn't find the video to recollect the ad properly. Still I'll rate it as one of the nostalgic ads. 

20) Essel world

Another epic ad. 'Essel world mein rahunga main ghar nahi nahi jaunga main.' Every child's dream was to go to Essel world at that time. It was correctly marketed and positioned. 

21) Amul butter

'Utterly butterly delicious Amul'. The girl, wearing a polka dot frock, became an iconic figure. Amul ads has been described as one of the best Indian advertising concepts because of it's wit and humour. It has been its forte. 

22) Rasna

The initial response to Rasna launch was quite poor. It was only after five years of their launch that it repositioned itself. The new positioning strategy incorporated the influencer (the child). While the initial positioning thrust of taste and economy remained, the quality of ease in preparation was added. The ad campaigns showed children asking their mothers to buy Rasna for the whole family. Some of the famous slogans were: "I love you, Rasna"; "My daddy loves . . . no, no, not coffee, not tea…. but Rasna".

There was a time when every household had Rasna. Summers meant Rasna. :)

23) Dabur Hajmola 

Mischievous ad. Typical hostel environment wherein all halla gulla and fun time is on until the warden arrives and everyone hides. It positioned Hajmola not just as good for digestion but yummilicious in taste as well. Strategically well positioned brand.

This is another one of my personal favourites. :)

24) Vicks

'Vicks ki goli lo khich khich dur karo'. Every kid was well aware that vicks is there to protect from the throat ailments. 

25) Lifebouy 

26) Nirma washing powder

Though it's not a hilarious ad, but I laugh when I see it. Reason- well yet to figure out. :) 
'Hema..Rekha..Jaya..Aur Sushma ..sabki pasand Nirma...Washing powder Nirma washing powder Nirma.'

27) Maggi

Maggi 2 minutes noodles. 'Badi gazab ki bhookh lagi maggi chahiye mujhe abhi'. I have literally sung this to my mom numerous times in my childhood. Ads become such an important part of your life especially as a kid. 

28) Titan watches

Beautiful father-daughter relationship. The tune in the ads of titan watches is really gripping! 

29) Complan

'I am a complan boy' and 'I am a complan girl'. Cute ad featured kid Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia. It is still etched in my memories. 

30) Fevicol

'Dum laga ke haisha'. Even the elephant couldnt break the majboot jod of Fevicol. :)

The ending

I was late in catching up the end. My inquisitiveness ruled me, bustling I typed on search icon- ‘The ending of how I met your mother’. My screen flashed with story outline of ‘Last forever’ (the finale). ‘No, don’t read it, you got to watch it first. Don’t do this to the finale episode (you are going to ruin it)!’ But ummm, I had to, there was no looking back. Rubbing my palms, I started reading.

My excitement slowly started fading. With button eyes, head turned down and fingers running through my hair- I said aloud, ‘WHYYYYY????’ Almost nine years of solid foundation build beautifully brick by brick was waiting for its final touch up. Excitement was at the rim of bucket! In just nick of the time when it was supposed to be perfect- heart thumping with words in mind ‘Wait for it…wait for it.  All that was left were just scattered pieces. In a fraction of second the moment became a spoiler. It was hard to believe! ‘Seriously this website is a hoax.’ I retyped and searched again, same results popped up to my disappointment.

Everything should not be a twist in the tail. It can end in all time high (for me Ted had finally met the girl). It was a happy moment where we all said, ‘finallyyyy there you go Ted’. In all the seasons, the makers made us believe that Robin and Ted are completely two different people, not made for each other. There were moments when I so wanted them to be together. Who cared for the odds, right? Let me share a secret, craziness went to the extent that I used to find resemblance of Robin and Ted in the kids (lol). Thinking how smartly the makers have found kids with little look alike of both of them.  But then slowly with time a firm belief developed wherein a voice said, ‘Oh come on Ted, not again!’ ‘She is not meant to be with you!’ ‘Distance Ted, distance.’ ‘Ted please get a reality check!’ ‘MOVE ON!!!’

Maybe the makers wanted a happy ending (as they had foreseen). They fast-forwarded the story into future. Where Marshall and Lily are having their third baby and finally his dream of being a judge has come true. Barney and Robin are divorced (big shocker). Barney after his month long marathon with girls, accidently becomes a father. He turns into a protective dad. At the end we see a completely changed Barney at the bar. Here, comes the twist, Ted's wife is dead six years back. He goes to Robin’s place with ‘the blue French horn’ and smiles at her (proposing to her). Robin eyes twinkle, as over the years she had been feeling lonely and waiting for this moment to happen (how so weird).

What if, they had left the story where Barney and Robin are happily married? Marshall’s dream is fulfilled and they are a happy go lucky couple until date as always. Ted has met the woman of his dreams, who is just an alter ego of him (with similar tastes, likes and dislikes). He has found the true meaning of love. How beautiful that end would have been?

Can a bad end take away all the slap days, interventions, acceptance and rejections and legendary moments? Maybe not all of it…But of course a legendary end would have gone down in history! Done justice to the fans.

Bonjour reine- Hello Queen :)

A complete euphoria. I cannot stop smiling, as I write. It’s the feeling of triumph when your heart knows deep within what it has experienced is pure ecstasy and freedom. A journey of 146 minutes, where you are just not a spectator, but really become a part of it. The movie is so gripping. My love for Kagana can make me a little bias. Saying that I can bet you will admire her with your soul! Incredible is the word.

It's a light movie with a huge impact-with many lessons to take. Yes, there are lessons in it. Particularly lousy things men do without knowing the damage. Guys it doesn't require much, but just a little change in perspective.

1) Guilt trip: Don’t make her feel that she is not perfect. Accept it. Nor are you. Guys sometimes act as Mr. Perfectionist- as they know it all. Girls on the other hand try hard to be a perfect daughter, a perfect wife, and a perfect mother…everything perfect. But the fact of the matter is none can be and it’s not human at all. Don’t make her feel whatever she does is just not enough. If this feeling creeps into her, eventually after a prolonged time she will stop doing anything. Then, don’t be startled.

2) Don’t be her teacher: You are her partner- yeah better half as they say. But not a teacher. Remember she has her own mind to think and do things. Yeah in a marriage surely both the people accept each other the way they are. Two different people take out mid-ways to do a thing. Not two individuals are same. In all this don’t try to boss her around. You must be a CEO in office but at home she is the one. J

3) Don’t take her for a ride- Don’t expect her to keep her stuff at bay and do your stuff first or be free for you. If you expect, then do the same as well. Reciprocate to her immediately even if you are in a middle of something. If you cannot, then understand that even she cannot.

4) Don’t question her choices: All her friends and family should not be your target zone. Like a critique have you been making fun of everyone in her life? Then, for sure you need to get the basics right. Remember even you are her choice.

5) Never look down upon her: It’s a usual notion that as a person grows in life his attitude changes. Some changes for sure are good. But the problem comes when you start looking upon your partner as a nobody. This feeling kills a relationship and damages her confidence. When in all your lows she never left you, then why in the highs you start judging her? Lifestyle or attitude changes are to grow together in life and not to part ways. Just give it a thought.

The girl in your life is surely a Queen- your Queen! :) Don't just say it casually but mean it in all literal sense. :) Cherish and nourish your relationship!

Two states

Just happened to see the promo of the upcoming movie based on famous novel 2 states by Chetan Bhagat. It looks really fresh as well as gripping. Absolutely looking forward to the movie. I completely adore this novel, it’s very dear to my heart. It makes you laugh, makes you cry and sometimes just shocks you. You crave as reader for the love birds to meet in the end. A happy ending makes you love it more! Few instances make their way deep into your heart, sealed with love. What I feel for the novel is just not love, it's madness! Let me share with you a conversation.

Me- You should read this one, a must read! It’s entertaining and surely you can relate to the core with the events.

Tarunn- Sure (In a very low tone).

Me- (Not a very convincing answer) Are you sure?

Tarunn-  I have been too occupied with work, lots of things in my mind.

Me- That means you’re not going to read it.

Tarunn- Pause. Silence.

Me- What if I narrate the story to you? What’s say?

Tarunn- Blank.

Me- Seriously I'm not kidding. I would love to narrate! There are moments which will make you say gosh seriously, it happened with us as well.

Tarunn- Okies, great.

Eye contact and smiles.

And then the saga started. I literary narrated it to him, the whole of it! Mind you it's not the summary kind of narration I am talking about, but real length and breath with days of efforts. Gosh I am so good at it (collars up). :) During dinner, on phone, texting on hangout, morning wake up alarm. Followed him like a ghost. :) I didn't spare him even for a second. :P Crazy right, but I did it all. Just a small eye contact was a green signal for me to start narrating, hehe. I even read few of my favourite pages and paragraphs word by word to him. 

What I love so much about it? The whole idea as to how different cultures make a big difference in a relationship of a couple. How when two different people accept and love each other differences but that’s not how the families or extended families think about it. Conflicts happen. Sometimes it comes to that level when either the girl/guy side abuses other person for what they are because of the different culture they come from. Such frictions lead to break ups in relationships. Sometimes it is loud and spoken whereas sometimes it's a silent cry. But in any case surely the relationship undergoes a sea change. 

Chetan Bhagat has described it beautifully with witty humour. I just hope that the movie does justice to his writing! Can’t wait to see the characters come alive on big screen. Though I know it’s a long wait. Just wish the time flies. Tick tock tick tock. :)
