The light within

By Unknown   Posted at  9:34:00 AM   Musings No comments
Nature is the best example of balance. Invincible Sun gives us warmth and light until it sets so that we witness darkness. Trees flourish and then comes autumn when the leaves shed. Rivers and water bodies make sure we are alive, but sometimes also leads to massive destruction.

My point is there’s always a flip side to all. We have a dark side as well as the light within us. Both aspects exist simultaneously. The dark side is more powerful and aggressive, though the light within is calm, serene and peaceful. Sitting on the fence, life questions you sometimes and seek answers. Especially when anger rises to its zenith, you cannot see, cannot hear the words of wisdom, cannot speak well and just cannot act the way you are meant to. Your true self hides. Split personality takes over. Your mind keeps echoing in whispers. Darkness becomes way louder than the light within. Feelings of vengeance, hatred, schemas, etc etc grips you.

Don’t be a hostage. Set yourself free! The decision is yours. You are more powerful than you realise. You are the reason of your own growth and destruction. Take a pick.

To the light within us. Follow it-rise and shine in life!

A whiff of freshness!!!

By Unknown   Posted at  10:52:00 PM   Musings No comments

The masks of maturity were eroded, teenage girl within had woken up. Flamboyancy of teens had taken over. Childish excitement if measured on a scale had reached its highest level. Scintillating eyes and wide smile directly flashed through heart. Songs played in mind like a continuous loop, I hummed to myself. “Pretty woman walking down the street, pretty woman the kind I like to meet.” ;)

It was a lazy Sunday morning (usual) turned into a bright and breezy one. Charged with kinetic energy some cosmic power ruled me (to mention of course all of us).

It was a Girls day out! Not just girls, but great friends who have been a part of each other in the last three years. The four of us (fantastic four) have had made multiple plans in the past for a day out, our bad it never happened until yesterday. Explains all the excitement in the air.

The day started with a long check-list (this time specially taken care off) -
Outfit of the day
✓
Urgh, the toughest question! Unlimited choices just confuse you sometimes. It should be apt as per the mood of the day.
Footwear
✓
Another big task. Same question, “Shucks, I don’t have the perfect one for today.” That calls for the mission, pick-up-a-perfect-one!
Accessories
✓
Of course how can one forget that.
Nailpaint
✓
Done
Mobile
✓
Husband alert- Please don’t call me :P OR maybe i can leave it behind (Ahh, on second thoughts what if I want to post pics on Facebook?) Bad idea.
Bag
✓
A new one

We all met at Phoenix mall. The way we all smiled at each other, happiness that we all oozed was the same as a child got his/her favourite candy/toy. For sure we all were revisiting and recreating the old memory lanes- the ones we left behind us. The newer us came at crossroads with the teenager inside us (by heart every girl is still the teenager she was, wearing the mask of maturity, wisdom, righteousness etc etc.).

Well, our excitement didn’t go unnoticed even by our husbands. :) In amazement, they all watched our activities since morning.

Firstly we checked out the movies released and their timings. Naah, nothing exciting. Let’s hit to shopping directly. So officially the day began with shopping. Elegantly displayed clothing is such a relaxation therapy for girls. Some of us just picked up their favorites and went into the trial room. ‘How is this?’ ‘This one or that one.’ (Opinion poll for all of us ;) ). In front of the mirror she turned left then right, then analysed and finally bought. Shopping bags in hands is such an asset! The Gollum inside us said, “My precious (truly and deeply)!”

After burning out few calories it was time to have a sumptuous meal (come on people, picking up what is meant for you and only you is a big exercise indeed). Tip- You want to lose weight? Just shop every day. :P

Checking out all the fine dining options we settled for Barley and grapes (something in the name attracted us). The ambience was cosy and stylish. We were so engrossed in clicking pictures that we forgot to place the order first. Finally our love for fish overruled all the dishes.

Again we went into the shopping spree. This time it was more elaborate and extensive. Eyes worked as a scanner, rejecting and accepting stuff to buy. It’s a big data base that a mind handles, especially during shopping. Not just the best buy in a particular shop but the best buys in all the brands in the mall. We are all so perfect in it. The number of shopping bags kept on increasing and so was the joy! ‘The happy moment.’

It was time to satisfy our hunger pangs and freak out our taste buds after the strenuous shopping exercise. We headed towards Chili's. :P The hangover of shopping was just not enough, we needed more. Old college stories, gossips, funny incidents imprinted in memory and experiences were the ending high note. For 2-3 hours we all narrated various stories, laughed our heart out, and pained our jaws. We kept ordering food, hogged and hogged until we felt like a balloon. Yummylicious, lip smacking food (even the mock tails)- every dish was better than the previous one. ‘Mmmm’, off we all went in chorus.

It was a day locked in memory for years to come. I wish and know that now we will plan more frequent day outs. But as you say, the first's always hold a special place.

Cheers to us!!!!

P.S.- Still a high. Thousand times I have seen our pics and smiling on my own. Love you girls. xoxo

Surprise, surprise! :)

By Unknown   Posted at  6:46:00 PM   Musings No comments
Last weekend was a memorable one. It was one of the times when a pleasant surprise embraced me with its warmth. It all started with a message.

I unlocked my phone as it beeped constantly and the screen rose to shine from the dead, “Didi I am in Bangalore. Reached Udita di’s place. Will call you in a while.”

I didn't move for a while. Really? Is he serious (knowing that my little bro is a good prankster created a conflict between my mind and heart). I listened to my heart as it pumped as hard as it could, I picked up my phone to call Udita and confirm. What if it’s a prank, maybe he is just teasing me. We love teasing each other and also considering it was late in the night, I did not make the call. Clock ticked and I kept myself busy. Bluff Bluff. Argh. Surprises are too much to handle for a girl, specially when you wait in anticipation. I kept itching towards knowing whether it was really a prank. A side glance of my phone, some bumbled words, and huge growl in the stomach. It was all happening. When it became enough to handle, I picked up my phone and called a friend. Smart alert!!

Wait Wait, I told my friend as my phone beeped with a call waiting from Udita. I still don’t remember what conversation I had with my friend. Apparently, the anxiety had turned me a deaf year to her. Oh My God. This is really happening as it was too late to receive Udita’s call.

Blah Blah.. Bye Bye. Disconnect. Dial back Udita. Is that you Sanky (Sankalp)? I said as a male voice echoed from other side.

“You actually came to Bangalore, goshhhhh. What a surprise!”, my excitement had no bounds.

“Yes, yes. Just to meet Udita di and you. Going back on Sunday.” he said smiling in his voice.

“What man, just for a day you have come to Bangalore?”

“Arey di... Udita di wants to talk to you. She is snatching the phone. First talk to her.”

“Hellosssssss!!!!” from the other side and it did not sound like Udita.

“Oh my God! BUAAAAAAA! Amazing surprise. This is like a double bonanza.” I shrieked with laughter.

“We made a last minute plan to surprise my both nieces. See I promised you, I’ll be the first one to visit the both of you”

Like passing the parcel, the phone was tossed from one to another with excitement evident in the voices. “Aastha, I am on a call”, exclaimed Tarun as my vocal chords crossed boundaries of grave silence at midnight. He had his official meeting going on and his team thought if there was a party going on hearing my loud laughter. Finally, Saturday lunch was decided upon. It was going to be a big bash. My sis and jiju had moved to Bangalore just few months back. Everyone was coming to my home the first time after my marriage. Some emotions are hard to be expressed in words (still I’ll try).

I am a Dehra Dun girl from heart. Big get-togethers, lot of storytelling of past events, pulling each other’s leg, etc. etc have been an integral part of my upbringing. The mantra has been ‘all for one and one for all’. Our favourite family song which we all just adore and sing together is-’Ek dusre se karte hai pyar hum, ek dusre ke liye bekarar hum’. With time we all have moved to different places across the globe. The commonplace where everyone now and then meets is Delhi (it's a hub). Being in Bangalore especially after my marriage, I have craved those get-together sessions. Now and then I get updates from my bros about how people were rolling on the floor during one such session and I laugh imagining the whole scene. In my heart I really miss them a lot.

So after three years of me being married, first time someone from my family was coming to my home. Well, the first time from my father’s side of family. I cannot forget the day when I had broken my ligament and was on bed rest when my Mausi and Mausaji rushed to Bangalore cancelling all their plans. Ahh.. those memories are still fresh in my heart but I’ll save that for another blog. Being a girl it was surely something very special for me.

The excitement made me beat the morning alarm and in no time I found my head in the refrigerator. Checklist was the first thing I had to do and the joy of what I should cook grew as the list went on. Couple of hours passed and as I swung left to right in the kitchen, I heard a huge laughter. Tarun was awake and it took him no time to coin me a robot. We both giggled and he could guess by my expressions that lot of love is going in the food today.

Fortunately it was a lovely afternoon weather and as I eagerly awaited everyone, I kept thinking how life has been busy and such moments are a rare welcome. Ding Dong!! As I opened the door, we greeted each other with warmth, smiles and hugs. I met Sankalp after 6 years. How time flies! Still it never felt that we were meeting after ages. That's the beauty of relationships, when from childhood the seeds are strong then time or distance can never create a drift. And it just felt like yesterday.

We all had a great time together. A warm, fun-filled memorable Saturday. Jaw ached with laughter. Leg pulling, discussing petty details, everyone pouring their one liners and laughing.

Sankalp came to me and said, “What has happened to my sisters after marriage? How did you cook this?” :P

We hogged and enjoyed together. Good food tastes better with good company. Then, like old times just dropped on the bed, lazy and drowsy after food. But our enthu level was way high and we kept jabbering the whole afternoon. :)

The trio (me, bua and Udita) had an exclusive girly session as the guys enjoyed match with the drinks. No get together is complete without girls occupying a corner in isolation and chatting. :P

Before they were leaving I realised gosh, we didn't even clicked photographs. So silly of me. To that my bro replied don’t worry di it’s here (pointing to his mind). What a thought! It was surely another snapshot added to all the memories!

A perfect Saturday sealed with love and a pleasant surprise.

A hammock by the beach

By Unknown   Posted at  11:06:00 PM   Poems No comments

Melodrama of waves gushing
Humming to itself, the hammock stretch
Lazing in the summer afternoon
And dancing to the beats of shore
It swings

Overlooking dusky sand on the left
And green landscape on the right
Embracing the infinite sky
With love handles tied little above the ground
It swings

Nature with its four elements enthrals
Panoramic views so profound
Absorbing energy to brace itself
Awaiting an evening of solitude
It swings

P.S. – I was in an awful mood until I randomly saw this old photograph. Made me feel good in a fraction of a second. Some pictures are so powerful :)

Bonjour reine- Hello Queen :)

By Unknown   Posted at  11:56:00 PM   Musings No comments

A complete euphoria. I cannot stop smiling, as I write. It’s the feeling of triumph when your heart knows deep within what it has experienced is pure ecstasy and freedom. A journey of 146 minutes, where you are just not a spectator, but really become a part of it. The movie is so gripping. My love for Kagana can make me a little bias. Saying that I can bet you will admire her with your soul! Incredible is the word.

It's a light movie with a huge impact-with many lessons to take. Yes, there are lessons in it. Particularly lousy things men do without knowing the damage. Guys it doesn't require much, but just a little change in perspective.

1) Guilt trip: Don’t make her feel that she is not perfect. Accept it. Nor are you. Guys sometimes act as Mr. Perfectionist- as they know it all. Girls on the other hand try hard to be a perfect daughter, a perfect wife, and a perfect mother…everything perfect. But the fact of the matter is none can be and it’s not human at all. Don’t make her feel whatever she does is just not enough. If this feeling creeps into her, eventually after a prolonged time she will stop doing anything. Then, don’t be startled.

2) Don’t be her teacher: You are her partner- yeah better half as they say. But not a teacher. Remember she has her own mind to think and do things. Yeah in a marriage surely both the people accept each other the way they are. Two different people take out mid-ways to do a thing. Not two individuals are same. In all this don’t try to boss her around. You must be a CEO in office but at home she is the one. J

3) Don’t take her for a ride- Don’t expect her to keep her stuff at bay and do your stuff first or be free for you. If you expect, then do the same as well. Reciprocate to her immediately even if you are in a middle of something. If you cannot, then understand that even she cannot.

4) Don’t question her choices: All her friends and family should not be your target zone. Like a critique have you been making fun of everyone in her life? Then, for sure you need to get the basics right. Remember even you are her choice.

5) Never look down upon her: It’s a usual notion that as a person grows in life his attitude changes. Some changes for sure are good. But the problem comes when you start looking upon your partner as a nobody. This feeling kills a relationship and damages her confidence. When in all your lows she never left you, then why in the highs you start judging her? Lifestyle or attitude changes are to grow together in life and not to part ways. Just give it a thought.

The girl in your life is surely a Queen- your Queen! :) Don't just say it casually but mean it in all literal sense. :) Cherish and nourish your relationship!

To the girl who loves you the most-take care of her. :)
A bientôt! (See you soon!)

Sunshine!!!

By Unknown   Posted at  8:37:00 AM   Poems 1 comment

A bright new sunshine
I am basking in the sun
With rays of hope and warmth
I stretch out my arms
Eyes twinkling small
I see the world around
Away from the mad rush
It seems so calm
As the Sun rises
Darkness hide
The demons of the night
Losing their ground
Morning rituals start
Welcoming yet another day
The magic of nature so benevolent
I thank you God
For bestowing in my life
The new sunshine J

Two states

By Unknown   Posted at  1:10:00 AM   Musings No comments
Just happened to see the promo of the upcoming movie based on famous novel 2 states by Chetan Bhagat. It looks really fresh as well as gripping. Absolutely looking forward to the movie. I completely adore this novel, it’s very dear to my heart. It makes you laugh, makes you cry and sometimes just shocks you. You crave as reader for the love birds to meet in the end. A happy ending makes you love it more! Few instances make their way deep into your heart, sealed with love. What I feel for the novel is just not love, it's madness! Let me share with you a conversation.

Me- You should read this one, a must read! It’s entertaining and surely you can relate to the core with the events.

Tarunn- Sure (In a very low tone).

Me- (Not a very convincing answer) Are you sure?

Tarunn-  I have been too occupied with work, lots of things in my mind.

Me- That means you’re not going to read it.

Tarunn- Pause. Silence.

Me- What if I narrate the story to you? What’s say?

Tarunn- Blank.

Me- Seriously I'm not kidding. I would love to narrate! There are moments which will make you say gosh seriously, it happened with us as well.

Tarunn- Okies, great.

Eye contact and smiles.

And then the saga started. I literary narrated it to him, the whole of it! Mind you it's not the summary kind of narration I am talking about, but real length and breath with days of efforts. Gosh I am so good at it (collars up). :) During dinner, on phone, texting on hangout, morning wake up alarm. Followed him like a ghost. :) I didn't spare him even for a second. :P Crazy right, but I did it all. Just a small eye contact was a green signal for me to start narrating, hehe. I even read few of my favourite pages and paragraphs word by word to him.

What I love so much about it? The whole idea as to how different cultures make a big difference in a relationship of a couple. How when two different people accept and love each other differences but that’s not how the families or extended families think about it. Conflicts happen. Sometimes it comes to that level when either the girl/guy side abuses other person for what they are because of the different culture they come from. Such frictions lead to break ups in relationships. Sometimes it is loud and spoken whereas sometimes it's a silent cry. But in any case surely the relationship undergoes a sea change.

Chetan Bhagat has described it beautifully with witty humour. I just hope that the movie does justice to his writing! Can’t wait to see the characters come alive on big screen. Though I know it’s a long wait. Just wish the time flies. Tick tock tick tock. :)
