A day full of festivities around. After 33 years, Eid and Hariyali Teej have fallen on the same day. Major chunk of households are in
celebration mood today, thus jubilation is many folds. Prayers and greetings, laughter and hugs,
women dressed up to their best – palms full with spectacular henna designs and tattoos,
dancing and playing games. Elaborate sumptuous feast with mouth watering
goodies. The aromatic smell that just tantalizes you!
The essence of Teej is celebration of love- love of a wife
for her husband. A symbol of victory of love, as it’s the day union of Shiva
and Parvati after her many rebirths. The celebration thus is epitomized by women
fasting and offer prayers to Goddess Parvati. Adorn with beautiful sarees
augmented with jewelery, henna on palms. How so beautiful, Indian women just
look scintillating. The celebration is embarked by songs, dance and swing
rides.
Today Eid is celebrated after the holy month of Ramadan
Kareem. It’s the month to purify oneself. To surrender completely to Allah and
to serve the people is the whole essence (Allah ki ibadat aur bandeh ki khidmat).
Annual practice of fasting in Ramazan is like a spiritual reflection and rehearsal.
The
Holy Quran says: "Ramadan is the month in which we sent down the Holy Quran, as a
guide to mankind, also clear Signs for guidance and judgment (Between right and
wrong)."
Eid is a celebration of successful completion of Ramazan, following the
commands with strength and vigor. After the special prayer offered in the
mosques or open places, the entire day people greet each other and meet all
friends, neighbors and relatives. With hugs, love and laughter Eid is
cherished and enriched.
Festivals bind us all in a unique way. We forget the past
and celebrate today and look forward to tomorrow!
Wishing you all a very happy Teej and Eid Mubarak.
